Cleaning Granite Countertops – 4 Easy Ways To Clean Granite Countertops
Now that you have your beautiful granite countertops installed have you considered the safest ways to clean them?
Your first step should be consulting the care directions that came with your new countertops and do not substitute one cleanser for another. Even though the actions they claim to do are the same, they may do damage to the finish on the countertops.
The first tip and perhaps the most important, is to clean the spill up immediately upon happening. In the kitchen most stains will contain food stuff that may have acidity content. The finish on your countertop should be strong enough to combat penetration but why take the chance? Take care of what you have worked so hard to have by cleaning it up pronto. A warm damp cloth is usually all you will need at this point of the spill.
You can use formulas made from common household items such as peroxide and vinegar. Each is disinfecting in its own right. A simple recipe of peroxide 3% combined with 3 drops of ammonia will take care of most food stuff spilt on the countertop.
An equal part of vinegar and warm water is a wonderful frugal solution and one used in many households. It does not leave any lingering odors. Each solution may be applied directly to the stain and allowed to set for 1 minute then blot with a paper towel and dry with a soft cloth.
If the stain includes grease, take a small amount of dishwashing detergent and mix with an equal amount of water. Apply to the stain and let set one minute. Wipe up with a damp cloth and dry. If there is dry grease present, simply scrape up the edge of a spoon or knife using a very light motion. No harm will come to the countertop using this simple technique.
Did a little one decide to draw on the countertops? If so, take acetone and apply lightly in a circular motion then rinse with warm water and dry. Your countertops will always appear brand new with just a little thought and consideration.
